Hey guys! I’m going to start a new feature here on Bibliosaurus Text to recognize great reviews I read during the week. I do read plenty of reviews on other book blogs, and will often decide what to read next depending on those reviews. However, my shortest work day has me out of the house, door to door, for 12 hours. And then there are nights where I have other things going after work, like band rehearsal until after 10 pm. That leaves very little time to comment on the blogs I read.
I also recently was made aware that some people will downvote reviews on Amazon in order to boost their own review up. This is pretty reprehensible to me, since I really believe that there’s room for everybody to have their own opinions, and we don’t need to tear others down for our opinion to be valid.
That said, I’d like to recognize some other book bloggers here, formally, once a week. I even made an image and everything:
Now, as far as I was able to Google, this isn’t a meme somebody has already coined. If it is, would you please let me know so I can dole out some credit where credit is due? Otherwise, feel free to link in the comments to any noteworthy book blogger reviews you saw last week. Let’s share the love
Giselle at Xpresso Reads consistently writes great reviews. I’ve found that our opinions often match on books we both read, so I take what she says seriously. She’s not afraid to say if a book didn’t work for her, so I value that too. This week, she helped me decide what to read next on my Nook: The Night She Disappeared by April Henry.
Giselle said: “The Night She Disappeared, with only 240 pages, is a short but intense mystery….Its format includes paper clippings, evidence pieces, interviews, and other memorabilia. For lovers of detective work, this is a sure way to keep you glued into not only the characters lives, but the investigation as well. Along with its short chapters, it’s a novel that is especially easy to read in one sitting.”
We all know that a good hook can get you reading right away, right? Well, a good hook is also golden when writing a book review. One of the best hooks I read this week was from Realm of Fiction‘s review of Grave Mercy by R.L. LaFevers:
“Let’s start with the assassin nuns, because let’s face it, that’swhy everyone wants to read this book. ”
If you didn’t already know what this book was about, that’s enough to get you interested, right?
Great job, ladies! Keep up the great reviews.
What do you think of this new feature? I intend to keep posting my props to other bloggers, and hope you’ll take that opportunity to spread some virtual high fives.
Aww thanks for the shout out chick! I’m glad you’ll read it it’s such a short but intense read!
